Why could Tetrakys favor the development of intelligence?

Intelligence is the quality to comprehend the world that surrounds us, and interact with it in the best way resolving problems or creating products.

Specialists have different conceptions to interpret and develop the intelligence; nevertheless, there is an agreement in that the intelligence of each person is product of some kind of genetic baggage. But specialists also agree that some aspects of the structure of intelligence can be modified by experiences applied in critical moments of the developments of human beings. That is, there is clear scientific evidence that shows that human intelligence can be dramatically incremented during the early years of life, even considering genetic restrictions.

We are born with a neural hardware that has the capacity to be interconnected. A newborn’s encephalic mass keeps all the neurons for the rest of the life of the kid, but the connection between them is not totally completed. That means that neural cells capable of activating the human brain need to be build during the first years of life of the kid, phase in which the interconnection of neurons (called synapses) is produced. When the synapses is being built substances called endorphins, which produce pleasure, are segregated.

Brain interconnection in babies from 0 up to 3 years is prodigious, up to 6 years brain activity is still enormous and it continues in lower intensity during childhood and puberty. From adolescence and for the rest of our life, human beings operate using the brain capacity reached up to that moment.

Experiences are a determinant aspect for development of intelligence and learning for the rest of the life. Babies are always experimenting. They bite and touch to recognize textures and flavours, they babble practicing the accent of every language and they throw objects to observe their trajectories. They experiment the cause-consequence effect. They have a intuitive knowledge much bigger than what is thought, and through it they recognize and build structures or ‘schemes’ of the world that surrounds them.

In children, the experience of comprehension of the world is implicit in playing. Tetrakys is a toy that provides with playful experiences that attend to comprehension of mathematical logic. It is a tool that tries to get the child to use and express correctly their intuitive aptitudes, hoping that these aptitudes should be transferable.

On the other hand, Tetrakys tries to be the base of experiences in which aptitudes of intelligence are applied, such as creativity, space comprehension, algorithmic, basic and superior processes of thought, and of course intellectual values lived through those experiences.

  • Creativity. Children have unlimited possibilities to create shapes and figures and put their imagination into play.
  • Basic thought processes. When building and playing children develop their fine motive, put attention selectively, observe, compare, identify similarities and differences, classify by shape, color and size, build up series and enumerate.
  • Space notion and comprehension. Children have geometric intuition; they have the notion of space positioning and proportionality of shapes. This process can be facilitated proposing the children to do amplifications and reductions of diverse figures. Moreover, it is expected to favor the children’s understanding of areas and volumes by comparing, decomposing and building.
  • Mental imagination. Playing with Tetrakys requires imagination and mental transformation of figures, plus an understanding of the total object and each of its parts.
  • Algorithmic intelligence. Gradually and respecting each children’s capacities, it is expected that children should be able to develop the capacity to handle symbol manipulation systems through playing with codes of different bases, mastering later the values relatives to any numeric system.
  • Superior processes of thought. In the games children are challenged to elaborate hypotheses that later will be subject to verification using the materials. Cultivating those capacities of thought, it is expected to favor a higher conscience process about thought.
  • Intelligence values. All these abilities of the mind help and are influenced to an intellectual attitude, where children exposed to a critical moment in their development to the pleasure and creative effort that represents building and discovering. Children get involved in attitudes such as focusing their thoughts, perseverance and the intellectual rigor implied by verification.
