Adding up points of your chips and mine

Introduction

When children understand the binary system used in the game of the TETRADICE, they perform additions interchanging values of the system.

Preparation

After the children have finished the game of the TETRADICE in a system with decimal base, they prepare a table with columns in yellow, green, blue and red.

Procedure

  1. Let’s put our chips together: Put your chips on this column and other child on this other column.
  2. In case of completing the value of the next position, like in the diagram, ask the child: Can we change these 13 green chips for blue ones?
  3. Say: ok then I will give you a blue chip and you give me 10 green ones.
  4. Ask: Where are you going to put it?
  5. Ask children in school age to read out loud the addition.
